Big names tumble at APT Macau

2008-08-28 16:44:02

The majority of the star players taking part in the Asian Poker Tour (APT) competition in Macau this week have been eliminated on day 1a.

Ten-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder Doyle Brunson, who has featured heavily in the event's promotion, was among the early competitors to be eliminated, along with his son Todd, Poker News reports.

JC Tran, Steve Sung, Shawn Buchanan and David 'Chino' Rheem joined the father and son on the rail, as did David Saab, who won the APT's inaugural championship in the Philippines back in spring.

The play has moved quickly on day 1a and as of 16:00 BST there are just 26 competitors left out of a starting field of 103.

Johnny Chan, who also has ten WSOP bracelets, was the latest top competitor to be knocked out, after spending several hours battling with his low stack.

The majority of the world's best players elected to compete at the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event in California instead.
