The back and forth tussle between Amit Makhija and John Phan at the end of the Legends of Poker tournament last night has been called the finest World Poker Tour (WPT) heads-up of all-time.
Mike Sexton, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder, was quoted by the WPT's official website as saying the contest was "the greatest heads-up match in WPT history", even eclipsing the mammoth fight between David Chiu and Gus Hansen earlier this year.
Phan eventually won the heads-up to take the title. It was the third time this year that he walked away victorious from a one-on-one battle in a major poker event.
The last time he lost on such an occasion was in June last year, when Francois Safieddine bested him at the WSOP.
Sexton is the chief WPT host and provides commentary for all of the company's televised tournaments.
He was given an ambassador award by Card Player magazine at its annual awards ceremony in 2006.
