APT glory for Timoshenko

2008-09-01 14:04:17

Yevgeniy Timoshenko notched up the biggest win of his career over the weekend with victory in the Asian Poker Tour (APT) main event in Macau.

The Ukrainian, who is based in the US, defeated Joon Hee Yea in the heads-up to win the tournament and the $500,000 cash prize.

This is more than three times the amount he won for taking down event three at the Irish Poker Open last year.

Joon picked up $250,000 for finishing second, which is also his best-ever performance.

The end came when Joon's king-queen failed to improve against Timoshenko's pair of ladies.

Plenty of big names entered APT Macau but few managed to survive past the first day's action.

Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Steve Sung, David Saab, John Juanda and Shawn Buchanan were among the stars who entered and busted out within the first few levels.

Rob Karian, Casey Kastle, Julio Diaz, Quang, Nguyen, Chong Wing Cheong and Michael Pedley - all relative unknowns - were the other final table combatants.
